Major Crackdown on Burglary Network; Stolen Valuables Recovered

Rayagada: In a major breakthrough against a burglary network operating across Rayagada district, police have arrested 12 alleged members of a burglary gang and recovered stolen valuables, including gold and silver ornaments, three cars, a Bullet motorcycle, 12 mobile phones and expensive household articles.

According to Rayagada SP Raj Prasad, the gang allegedly targeted locked and unoccupied houses in different towns and rural areas of the district. The accused reportedly took advantage of vacant houses, disabled CCTV cameras and then broke into the premises to steal valuables.

Police investigation revealed that the gang allegedly melted stolen gold and silver and pledged them with different institutions. The proceeds were reportedly used to maintain a lavish lifestyle.

During the operation, police recovered 230 grams of gold ornaments, 581 grams of silver, three cars, one Bullet motorcycle, 12 mobile phones and several expensive household articles.

The arrested accused are reportedly from the Kashipur, Kalyansinghpur, Kolnara and Rayagada police station areas. The SP said that 15 cases had previously been registered against them at different police stations.

Following a series of house burglary incidents, Rayagada Police constituted a special investigation team and took the assistance of cyber and technical experts. After analysing technical inputs and tracking the suspects, police succeeded in apprehending the accused.

Meanwhile, police have identified several other suspected members of the gang, and further arrests are expected soon, the SP said.

The operation is being described as a major success for Rayagada Police in their ongoing crackdown on organised burglary and property-related crimes.
